Chong Hing Bank announces its partnership with China UnionPay (“UnionPay”) and NuPay System International Limited (“NuPay”) in the launch of “My Wine” UnionPay Co-branded Gift Card.  The first of its kind with a focus on red wine, the Card opens up a world of consumption without boundaries with about 4 million merchants accepting UnionPay Cards globally.  Cardholders will enjoy special discounts on selected US red wines of international acclaim in Hong Kong and the US.  With “Wine World Connect”, an all-round smartphone app for red wine lovers developed by our US partner Veraison Holdings Inc., everything to know about the alcoholic beverage and “My Wine” UnionPay Co-branded Gift Card exclusive offers are just a few taps away.

Mr Felton Lau, Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Chong Hing Bank said, “We are very excited about this partnership with UnionPay and NuPay.  The launch of the world’s first red wine-themed UnionPay Gift Card was aimed at quenching the increasing craze for red wine in Hong Kong and China in recent years.  Hong Kong people love red wine.  From 2005 to 2009, wine consumption in Hong Kong doubled to an amount of 35 million bottles per year.  That translates to 4.5 litre per capita in average and tops the chart in Asia.  The Hong Kong red wine sector has thrived on the abolishment of red wine duty by the Hong Kong SAR Government in 2008.  Last year, Hong Kong replaced New York as the world’s largest red wine auction centre.  Turnover of wine auction recorded for the first half of this year reached HK$250 million, surpassing the total of New York and London combined.  Our newly launched “My Wine” UnionPay Co-branded Gift Card will feature selected premium red wines from US wineries in the new regions of California, Oregon and Washington State, offering red wine lovers more choices of various flavours and styles.”
